Checking out the Cherry Blossoms on the Spring Photowalk

The freak weather we were having this spring was a blessing and a curse for us.

The weather was nice enough for us to tour around the Tidal Basin with little worry of cold temperatures or rain. However, the unseasonably warm weather meant that we missed most of the blossoms on the tree (but we still managed to find some).

The group we had on the outing was great! One of our members brought a couple she was doing engagement shots for and they toured with us for part of the walk. We had quite a hike that day- all the way around the Tidal Basin (from the Smithsonian stop on the mall). We all managed to have a ton of fun running around grabbing photos here and there.

Once we were done touring the Mall/Tidal Basin (which Jules ‘live blogged’ with an Eye-Fi card, an iPhone, and my Flickr account), we headed off to Capital City Brewing Company to get some grub. Once they saw our large group, they sat up upstairs in basically what is private dining/special events area. We all talked and swapped various stories (like where Stuart found his drink recipe).

From a giveaway standpoint, it was our biggest yet. We had three wonderful sponsors and gave away stuff from all of them (BlackRapid and ThinkTankPhoto were raffled). Ryan, a new member won the pixel pocket rocket from TTP, while Brian (another new walk member) won the Retrospective II! Christine (the same person shooting the engagement pics) won the very cool RS-5 Cargo strap from BlackRapid. The Cargo will probably be my next strap once I procure a new body.

It was a wonderful walk and thank you very much to all the attendees and sponsors for making it happen! Our next walk has been scheduled and it’s gonna be a cool one- a private tour of Camden Yards which is celebrating it’s 20th anniversary this year. I really hope you join us- find out the details here.

  1. Cool, cool, cool! I want one!For those of us with bad necks, shoulders, etc., this looks like the peecfrt solution to carry around a quality camera with a big lens. Currently I walk around with my D300 in my left hand to keep the weight off my neck and shoulders. With the R-strap I should be able to have both hands free and finish the day without pain andthat’s worth more than $44!.I think I just found out what I want Santa to put in my stocking this Christmas! Thanks for the review and the video.
