So Long, Xbox 360

My Xbox recently kicked the bucket after 4 years (finally succumbed to the dreaded Red Ring of Death). So I did what any nerd would do.

With the help of an ifixit guide, I took apart the Xbox to try to see what happened to it myself. Along the way, I discovered how complicated it is to take apart. (One of the things I found was a Foxconn DVD drive.) Once I took it apart and realized that repairing it (since it had already failed) was a waste of time, I decided to save the hard drive and buy a new one eventually.

Using my macro lens, I also took some pictures to try to capture the circuit boards in an atypical perspective. What do you think?

(Yes, this is how @rcantwell came up with the #JoeStrong hashtag and wristbands. Nope, not kidding.)

  1. Nice….But did you try the RROD fixes out there? Like wrap it in a towel and leave it on for hours so it melts itself or whatever and starts working again? I know my friend recovered his Xbox from RROD and got about another year out of it.

    1. I didn’t. One of the reasons I took it apart was to see if the ifixit’s RROD fix would be worth it. Since it was already dead, I figured it was better to spend the $70+ on a new device.
