Timelapsing at Hawk Hill

Whoa, the views from Hawk Hill are WAY better than last time.

This past weekend Jules and I returned to Hawk Hill. Our last visit was quite eerie and drenched in fog so we didn’t realize how awesome of a view it offered. I kept the place in the back of my mind for a future timelapse. The weekend came and the weather forecast looked great. There wasn’t a cloud in the sky so taking pictures was a no brainer and we decided to head back to Hawk Hill for a sunset timelapse.

We packed a backpack with snacks, jackets, iPads, and flashlights. My Timbuk2 Snoop bag was loaded to the gills with photo equipment. We threw both bags in the car with a couple of camp chairs and set off north. The view on the drive up the ridge put us in awe.  After roughly an hour drive, we were parked and headed up the hill to a nice spot I noticed when we were last there. The view from that spot was mind blowingly fantastic. I quickly set up the tripod, popped the 1D on it, and set the intervalometer. We were off!

While we waited around monitoring the camera (which I’m still working on the best way to set the exposure to stop the flickering), we also had our other cameras out taking pictures of the bridge/San Francisco/planes flying around. We were treated to a wonderfully long sunset that seemed to set the sky on fire. After what seemed like forever, it finally got dark. We packed up our stuff, turned on our headlamps, and headed back to the car.

I’m happy with how the timelapse turned out. While I’m still working on some nitty-gritty parts of my skills; it’s cool to see how things are coming together. What do you think of it?
