This had to be one of the coolest running events I’ve ever attended.
This was a photo experiences enabled via the internet. A friend that I interviewed over a year ago on my blog (Sarah Stanley) referred a lead for me via Twitter. One of her friends (also named Sarah) needed a photographic cover of a hybrid book signing/reading & networking event. After getting all the details, I charged up my cameras, packed my (camera) bags, and left to go shoot this event one night after work.
After taking the bus to the Presidio and walking through the Palace of Fine Arts (which I cannot wait to go back to), I ended up at the location for the evening. They were holding their event in the “community” section of the Sports Basement. Sports Basement sells new and used sporting equipment from tents to running shoes to wetsuits. This location had a bit of charm since it’s basically in an old supermarket. There wasn’t much decor, but the place had a huge selection of gear.
Another Mother Runner is made up of two mothers– Sarah and Dimity– who are also runners. They have written two books (with a third on the way) and have merchandise with their own logo on it! It was fascinating to see the community that Dimity and Sarah have built. A subset of the running culture sure, but a very unique one at that. Almost all the attendees had children and as far as I know, all were runners. (I was the only man in attendance).
I snapped away in the background while the event unfolded. They gave away pretty awesome swag bags packed with goodies and held a pretty sweet raffle. The entire time they were chatting with guests and signing books. It was an honor photographing this event and I’m pretty happy with how the photos came out. What do you think?
